Information for All Prospective Students

We receive many emails about joining the Dynamic Mobility Lab. While we read all messages, we may not be able to respond to everyone individually. Please understand that a lack of response does not reflect on you or your qualifications.

For guidance on when to email professors directly, see this helpful FAQ by Yonatan Bisk.

Prospective Ph.D. Students

We recruit highly motivated Ph.D. students each year (dependent on funding). Apply through the Georgia Tech admissions portal. To ensure Dr. Tucker sees your application, we strongly recommend applying to the ECE, ME, or Robotics PhD program (with ECE or ME as the home unit) and listing Dr. Tucker as a faculty of interest.

You may email mtucker@gatech.edu to express your intent to apply. If you do, please include:

  • A brief statement on your research interests and how your experience supports them
  • Your CV/resume

This helps us watch for your application, but all applications undergo formal review in January, so we cannot provide individualized responses beforehand.

Georgia Tech M.S. Students

We typically recruit students at the start of each semester for research credit through a Special Topics course.

If you’re interested, please review our projects page and directly email the Ph.D. students involved with the project you’re most interested in. Include:

  • Your current year at Tech
  • Why you’re interested in that specific project
  • Relevant experience and what you hope to gain from the research
  • Your CV/resume

General inquiries can be sent to mtucker@gatech.edu with the subject line “Current GT Masters Student”.

Undergraduate Students

Starting Fall 2026, we are starting a VIP (Vertically Integrated Project) section for undergraduate students to become involved with the lab, titled Experimental Bipedal Robotics and Control. All prospective undergraduate students are to join the lab by applying to the VIP here.

Prospective Postdocs

The lab does not currently have funding to accept postdocs. But if you have already secured a funded postdoc fellowship and would like to work with us, please send an email to mtucker@gatech.edu.
