Information for All Prospective Students
Due to the overwhelming amount of emails that we receive about joining the Dynamic Mobility Lab, we cannot respond individually to emails from prospective students. However, the purpose of this website is to provide you with the necessary information for how to apply to work with the group.
For more information about when you should and when you should not email professors and lab groups directly, please refer to this awesome FAQ published by Yonatan Bisk.
Prospective Ph.D. Students
Each year we will be looking for highly motivated Ph.D. students to join the group (dependent on the availability of funding). Applicants should apply directly through the Georgia Tech admissions portal. To maximize the likelihood that your application will be seen by Dr. Tucker, we strongly recommend applying to either the ECE PhD program, the ME PhD program, or the Robotics PhD program with a home unit of either ECE or ME. Additionally, it makes it easier to find your application if you list Dr. Tucker as one of the faculty who you are interested in working with. If you apply to another program (like Interactive Computing), or do not mention Dr. Tucker’s name, it is not guaranteed that we will see your application.
You are also welcome to send an email to mtucker@gatech.edu but PLEASE do not send follow up emails with requests for a response. Your email will be seen, but it will likely not receive a response. If you do send an email, please make sure to include the following:
- a brief statement on what you’re interested in working on, with an explanation of how your existing experiences will support this.
- an attached CV/resume
The purpose of this email is simply to let us know your intentions of applying to the lab so that we can be on the lookout for your application. All applications undergo a formal review process in January (conducted for each PhD program at Georgia Tech), so we cannot provide individualized responses until after all applications are submitted and reviewed.
Georgia Tech Undergraduate or M.S. Students
If you are currently a Georgia Tech undergraduate or M.S. student interested in research positions, please send an email to mtucker@gatech.edu containing the subject line “Current GT Undergraduate Student” or “Current GT Masters Student”. Also, please include the following information in your email:
- which year you are at Tech
- which project you are most interested in contributing to
- an explanation of any existing research experiences and how these contribute towards your future interests
- what you are looking to get out of your research experience
- an attached CV/resume
Prospective Postdocs
The lab does not currently have funding to accept postdocs. But if you have already secured a funded postdoc fellowship and would like to work with us, please send an email to mtucker@gatech.edu.
